Deep Thoughts from a Rox Head
Quick Thoughts:

The Rockies brass is praying hard to the baseball gods for Dexter Fowler to grow up fast this summer down in Tulsa. The basic reason for this is the complete ineptness of Willy T as a big league hitter. Taveras is very good in the field but he just kills the lineup when he is in it at the top.

Since Garrett Atkins hasn't signed a multi year contract,  it may be possible that his good friend Matt Holliday has told him that the Rockies have indicated to Matt that they cannot or will not meet his, and his agent Scott Boras, demands.

If that is the case, then it answers the question as to why Atkins has been reluctant to sign a club friendly deal like Francis, Hawpe, Tulo and Corpas have. Garrett senses or has deduced that there may be some serious money available because of his inside info on the Holliday situation.

              Modesto starting pitcher
Aneury Rodriguez pitched a complete game, one hitter Sunday. His record is now even up at 3-3. Some people in the know say he has the best stuff on the Rockies farm.

See the Minor League page here.

The key to the season now is to shoot for a .500 record by the All-Star break with the players on hand. There are 56 games until that time so a 33-23 record would achieve that modest goal.

If they go into panic mode now and trade prospects for suspect pitching, then we might see a scenario like in the past where O'Dowd makes some moves he wished he hadn't (see Chone Figgins and Josh Bard). The team should have made a move for starting pitching last winter and since they didn't they should now wait until July and the record is, hopefully, closer to being in contention.

In other words, its both too early AND too late to be making trades now.

Even quicker thoughts pondered:

Hey, at least Francis didn't walk anyone Tuesday night.
