A broken hamate bone in his left hand has ended the season for second baseman Matt Macri (.233-8-35). He played 83 games, the last on July 15, and has had an injury mar his year in each of his three professional seasons. Macri’s 288 at-bats were up slightly from last year, when a left wrist injury ended his season after one game at Tulsa, following a promotion from Modesto. Macri finished with 65 games and 247 at-bats last year

2B Matt Macri- I don't see this guy sticking in the majors.  Like Nix last season, I leave games after watching him just searching for positives to hang my hat on for the next level.  His power doesn't show up consistenly, and he doesn't always look confidence at the plate.  The type of player that shows a little bit of everything, but not enough of anything.  I think Macri will be a casualty of the minor league attrition rate for prospects.

15. Matt Macri - 2B
As a USC Trojan alum, it's going to be mildly disconcerting if half the Rockies infield consists of Bruins (Garrett Atkins) and Irish (Macri) but as long as they help produce plenty of w's for my Rockies, I'll get over it. So here's the bigger dilemma, would we rather have our second baseman be capable of hitting up to 30 HR, with a mediocre batting average as Macri will likely do, or would we rather have him hit less than ten homers, with a high batting average (and OBP) and game changing speed. Since Macri was originally drafted as a third baseman, it clues you in that defensively, Corey probably has the advantage. Still, it's probably not as significant as it could be considering how fast Wimberly is. Matt's improved his glovework from last season, and as long as his wrist proves healthy, should show is this year what he's capable of with the bat. With our current second base situation up in the air, the decision between these two may have to be made sooner than we would normally put it off to.

It was a case of what he calls "a diverse education" at Notre Dame that has allowed Matt Macri to flourish in a farm system where there are prospects at his primary positions. He was a shortstop, but he ended up playing extensively at third base in his final year with the Fighting Irish.

Macri played third at Tri-City in 2004 and batted .333, convincing the Rockies that they needed to keep him on the field even though he and Stewart would be with Modesto in 2005. Macri batted .283 with a healthy .381 on-base percentage in 64 games. A wrist injury that required surgery ended his season early, although he did play one game for Tulsa in July.

With Tulowitzki on a fast track, the Rockies invited both to the instructional program in Tucson to work together in the middle infield, with Macri at second base.

"We got a lot of talented draft picks coming up here, real mature," Macri said. "At this point, as long as I can get in the lineup, it doesn't matter where they put me."
