The Rockies will discuss Affeldt's 2007 role during the offseason, manager Clint Hurdle said. Affeldt, 3-0 with a 7.79 ERA in 17 relief appearances since joining the Rockies in a July 31 trade with the Royals, would like for his job to clearly be one or the other next season. "I don't have a preference as much as a commitment," Affeldt said. "I don't want them to say they're giving me a chance to start and then, boom. That was my biggest thing with Kansas City. I never really had a chance to do it. I failed this year a couple of times, but I think I could've kept doing it.
"I don't think I've failed enough as a starter to look myself in the mirror and say I can't do it. I think I can relieve, get the job done at that. I've had my ups and downs at that, too. But the bullpen is fun. We have good guys and you get more games, so there are good parts about that as well as starting."

Left-hander Jeremy Affeldt, once viewed as a cornerstone of the club’s future, went to Colorado along with underperforming right-hander Denny Bautista in exchange for first baseman Ryan Shealy and right-handed reliever Scott Dohmann.
"I had a good run here, Affeldt said, "but I’m going to a good place for me. I’m a mountain guy. It’s going to seem strange though. I wore this uniform for 10 years."
