9. Chaz Roe - RHP
Thanks to Rockiesbiggestfan's update in the thread below this we know Roe will be back next week after being held back in extended Spring Training. Don't be alarmed by the late start, Morales was given a similar schedule last year, and we saw what came of that. Roe has the potential to surpass Jimenez as the Rox prospect rated with "the best stuff". He's got really good heat with a natural bite down at the end, and a very nicely developed curve for someone his age. Watch as he goes along for the development of a quality change-up to enhance his repertoire at which point he'll rank as the Purps top pitching prospect (so long as he can pass Morales that is).

Chaz Roe began the season in extended spring training. There, he can work on some issues with his delivery, which he tends to rush in the stretch, and his changeup, which is about 50 percent developed. But these matters did not prevent Roe from breaking camp with Asheville, however, hs build is slender at 6-foot-5 and is still developing physically, which is why the Rockies will keep him in Tucson for about the first month of the season.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Roe was drafted 32nd overall out a Kentucky high school last season. Using a low-90s fastball and an outstanding curveball, he was able to strike out 55 batters in 49 2/3 innings in his pro debut, though he walked 36 in the process. It's likely that he'll add some velocity as he fills out, giving him a great deal of potential. The command problems and his poor changeup will keep him from progressing quickly.

If you want to see the prototype for a "projectable arm," go check out the 6-foot-5 Roe when he gets to Asheville. The Rockies' supplemental first-round pick already throws in the mid-90s which comes in from a downward plane thanks to his height. He's got a plus, plus curve as well, though he needs to tighten it and gain consistency (thus the projectable part). A Pioneer League All-Star last summer, if Roe can start getting the hang of a changeup, he could be the best pitcher in the South Atlantic League.
