Alivin Colina

Full Name: Alvin Colina
Birthplace: Puerto Cabello, VZ
DOB: December 26, 1981
Bats: R   Throws: R
Height: 6' 3"   Weight: 209 lbs
Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Colorado Rockies in 1998.

Alvin Colina looks like a very good catching prospect albeit a bit old. He has the size and the professional look that scouts drool over. Right now he would be stuck behind Chris Iannetta for serious playing time at the AAA level should Iannetta not make the Rockies roster in 2007.

Colina has good size with a strong arm. His hitting looks solid with a possible homerun stroke hiding in there. Keep your eye on Colina.. he might just be something in the future.

This year will be a big one for Colina, who was coming off reconstructive knee surgery and proved to be in excellent physical condition. He and Iannetta, who got most of the time at catcher for the Rockies in the final month, split the time at Double-A Tulsa.

The Rockies will have Iannetta, Yorvit Torrealba and at least one more catcher like Torrealba (with Major League experience) in camp, so making the team in camp would be a stretch. But if Colina continues to prove he is healthy and improves offensively -- he batted .254 at Tulsa before being promoted to the Majors for limited duty -- he could be a factor in the Rockies' catching future
